2025 Volvo EX40 Trim Levels Overview

The ideal Volvo EX40 trim level depends on personal factors: your budget, lifestyle, driving habits, and, of course, the amenities you require for traveling.

Volvo EX40 Core

Volvo EX40 Core

The Volvo EX40 Core makes a great first impression within the lineup. Equipped with the standard Single Motor Extended Range powertrain and rear-wheel drive, it has an excellent range of 296 miles on a single charge1 and makes 248 horsepower. The Twin Motor AWD powertrain is an available upgrade, bringing up the MSRP only slightly from $53,795 to $55,545.2

One of the key selling points of the Core model is its heated front seats, a Blind-Spot Monitor, high-level illumination, and wireless charging, which are usually pricey add-ons for base-level trims, or not available at all. It also has a 12.3-inch driver display and 9-inch center display, rain sensor, and Lane-Keeping Aid. Unique 19-inch five-spoke Black diamond-cut alloy wheels add gravitas to a sleek and sophisticated exterior, which has the body-colored grille cover seen on most all-electric vehicles.

The Volvo EX40 Core also comes with the following:

  • Air quality system
  • Rear Park Assist
  • Matte Black roof rails
  • Fusion Microtech/textile upholstery
  • Power driver's seat with memory adjuster
  • An adjustable passenger seat
Volvo EX40 Plus

Volvo EX40 Plus

The Volvo EX40 Plus shares most features with the Core trim but adds a few premium amenities and design elements. Like the Volvo EX40 Core, it comes with the RWD Single Motor Extended Range powertrain, with the optional upgrade to the AWD Twin Motor. This also slightly boosts its MSRP from $56,595 to $58,345.2

The most noticeable addition to the Plus trim is the panoramic roof, with dark-tinted glass (to reduce glare in direct sunlight) and a power-operated sunshade. With the push of a button, the shade glides away, letting in a wash of soft, natural light.

The Plus configuration also enhances a couple of Core features; the air quality system becomes an air purifier, fog lights join the headlight/taillight system, and an advanced 360-Degree camera replaces the Rearview Camera.

  • Glossy Black roof rails
  • Connect Suede textile/Microtech upholstery
  • Power passenger seat
Volvo EX40 Ultra

Volvo EX40 Ultra

The Volvo EX40 reigns supreme at the top of the lineup. In addition to sharing a standard Single Motor Extended Range ($60,295) and available Twin Motor powertrain ($62,045), this model doesn't hold back on luxury.2 This is the Volvo EX40 that comes with the heat pump, bringing more efficiency to your ride by converting thermal energy (from the air around the car and the battery itself) to heat the cabin. It also has a heated steering wheel and heated rear outboard seats so that your back-seat crew can fully relax even in the coolest of weather conditions.

Many families ask about a power child safety lock; if this feature is a priority, the Volvo EX40 Ultra is for you. Pixel Technology Headlights are also popular amongst Volvo customers; this trim level has this feature, which automatically illuminates the road in the direction you're steering, giving you a clearer vision when making turns.

That's not all! The Ultra model also includes:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Pilot Assist
  • 20-inch five-spoke Black diamond-cut alloy wheels
  • Black Stone contrast rooftop
  • Harman Kardon® premium sound system
